Welcome to the Rotary Club of Port Moresby
Rotary is a world wide collection of clubs devoted to providing service and assistance to people in need throughout the world. Today there are 31,000 Rotary clubs in 200 countries with 1.2 million members. Our ongoing motto is Service above self and our motto for the year to June, 2007 is Lead the way.
Our club was founded almost 50 years ago and today is a dynamic, friendly and service oriented organisation. We are one of the larger clubs in Papua New Guinea with 44 members. Our members are men and women of the country’s capital who are business and professional leaders volunteering their time and resources to help others. Being in a less developed country puts us at the business end of Rotary.
This year, through our fund raising activities, the Rotary Club of Port Moresby will put over half a million kina back into our community through local organizations. Major recipients will be the vocational schools in Port Moresby. Our school desks program will provide school desks to hundreds of school children in the National Capital district and Central Province. Our Rotary against malaria project will save thousands from malaria all over the country. Our donations in kind project will provide books for our literacy program and equipment and supplies for hospitals and aid posts. Our TB reduction program, started recently, will hopefully see a significant reduction in local TB cases.
In carrying out our projects, we try to have fun along the way. A golf day, a jumbo tennis day, a medieval night and gaming nights are our major fundraisers this year and we also have social events with the Rotary Club of Boroko - the other Rotary club in Port Moresby.
Welcome to our website. We invite you to peruse our site to discover more about our club, our projects and our activities.
Yours in Rotary
Chris Smith
